A torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is seen here as the broken blue line. A torn ACL doesn't heal, and attempts to repair rather than replace the torn ligament have not been successful. Even if the ACL detaches from the bone without tearing, it is no longer able to function properly, even if it could be reattached.
