Does age affect the decision about having surgery?

TRANSCRIPT

Age is a factor, but we really look at activity level even more. If an older individual still is very active in sports that are high risk, say the jumping sports or the cutting and pivoting sports, we would recommend that (he or she) consider reconstruction. If, on the other hand, a younger individual does not do any of the risk sports, say he or she swims or bicycles, even on an elite level, he or she may do very well with nonoperative management.
